The NLGI standard classifies grease into nine consistency grades #000-6 based on penetration, with higher numbers indicating harder grease.These three grades are commonly used in industry:

NLGI #0 best performer through centralized systems requiring high fluidity. NLGI #1 keeps moving well with its soft, paste-like feel, making it reliable for precision bearings or when temperatures drop. The industry standard NLGI #2 balances flow and stickiness perfectly, it’s the go-to choice for daily maintenance on machinery and vehicles in typical operating temperatures. Do you need a grease with high viscosity and pressure resistance? The NLGI #3 delivers with extra thickness and pressure resistance. This grade handles punishing high-heat situations and demanding equipment like excavators or port machinery.

Note: In cold climates, grease viscosity increases and fluidity decreases, potentially causing pumping difficulties or lubrication failure. Regardless of grease type you choose, balance seasonal and operational needs. In winter or cold regions, reduce viscosity by one grade to ensure smooth pumping.

Pump Heads: Core Performance Differences

Pump heads determine grease compatibility, output volume, and pressure. WYMA offers five professional air grease pump heads:

Standard Type: Small/Common Round Head

Compatible with NLGI #0-3 grease at normal temperatures; only NLGI #0-2 recommended in winter. The small round head delivers 0.9 L/min, while the common round head reaches 1.2 L/min (higher flow than high-pressure heads). Low-pressure design cannot handle high-viscosity grease or high-temperature grease below 300 Celsius. Cost-effective for light equipment with low-viscosity grease in warm regions.

High-Flow All-Rounder: Square Head

Piston-driven grease compression design supports high-temperature grease below 300 Celsius and NLGI #3 viscous grease in winter. The highest flow rate in the whole series: 1.5 L/min. Combines high pressure and high flow for the best cost-performance ratio.

Viscous Grease Specialized: High-Pressure Head

Designed with fewer seals and concentrated pressure for NLGI #3 even NLGI #3+ grease and high-temperature grease below 300 Celsius. Moderate pricing with 0.9 L/min flow rate. Lower flow but excels in extreme cold environments.

Small-Piston High-Pressure Head

Compact piston boosting design enhances pressure for high-viscosity grease. Flow rate: 0.9 L/min. Compatible with NLGI #0-3 grease and high-temperature grease below 300 Celsius. Suitable for precise high-viscosity lubrication in cold weather. Higher price.

High-Flow Low-Temp Head: Large Head

We call this our large-bore suction head. It gives you a 1.3 L/min flow rate which is the second-highest flow across our entire product line. This head handles NLGI #0 through #3 greases perfectly in standard operating temperatures. When winter use in, stick with NLGI #0 to #2 greases for reliable performance. It can't run 300-degree celsius greases through this head, please note this. Viscous greases also don’t perform well here, pressure efficiency drops noticeably with thicker formulas. It is more expensive and serves high-flow applications best in regions where temperatures stay mild.
